BOTH Labor and the LNP have made healthcare related promises for Toowoomba and the Darling Downs today.
Labor’s Transport Minister Mark Bailey this morning travelled to Toowoomba to announce the party would hire more frontline health staff in the Darling Downs region including 297 nurses, 76 doctors and 66 health professionals if elected at the October 31 election.
“The work of our frontline health staff during this global pandemic has allowed the Palaszczuk Government to get on with Queensland’s plan for economic recovery,” Mr Bailey said.
“That means creating jobs and building a record $14.5 billion in regional road and transport projects like the West and East creeks culverts upgrade, and another $1 billion in road stimulus funding for more upgrades like the $13.9 million New England Highway project between Toowoomba and Yarraman.
“That’s unlike the LNP who have made more than $25 billion in promises with no way to pay for them other than to cut, sack and sell.”
LNP leader Deb Frecklington today announced an LNP government would invest $300 million in a surgery blitz to clear the backlog of Queenslanders stranded on growing surgery waiting lists.
This is on top of their $1.3 billion plan to recruit nearly 4500 more nurses, doctors, paramedics and allied health workers.
Mrs Frecklington said her plan would ensure Queenslanders could get the surgery they need when they need it.
“The LNP will clear Labor’s backlog so Queenslanders can get healthy and get on with their lives,” Ms Frecklington said.
“The surgery waiting list has grown by almost 26,000 patients in just five years under Labor.
“Every day Queenslanders are waiting is another day of worry, pain or financial hardship from not working.
“People get sicker on the waiting list and often can become dependent on pain killers as well.
“Our plan will undo the damage Labor has done to the health system over the last five years.”
