Redcliffe 2020 state election winner revealed and what it means for you

Kerri-Anne Dooley, Yvette D’Ath and Will Simon did battle in the seat of Redcliffe. Here’s who came out on top and what it means for Redcliffe peninsula residents.

Attorney-General, Yvette D’Ath (ALP) has been re-elected to the seat of Redcliffe after finishing ahead of LNP’s Kerri-Anne Dooley in the polls with 45.19 per cent of the vote.

The seat covers the suburbs of Redcliffe, Scarborough, Clontarf, Woody Point and Margate.

Mrs D’Ath first won the seat in the 2014 by-election and has held it ever since.

She was previously the Federal Labor MP for Petrie.

Ms Dooley has contested the seat five times previously, first as a candidate for Family First and later for the LNP.

She picked up 35.83 per cent of the vote.

The key election issues that decided the vote were youth crime, health, education and infrastructure.

Here is what it means for you:

Health

Redcliffe Hospital has been the battle ground for state and federal government elections over the past few years and this election was no different. Labor have promised to put $6 million towards plans for a major expansion of the hospital.

Education

A re-elected Labor government will aircondition every state school classroom, library and staffroom by mid-2022

Humpybong State School will receive $700,000 from a Labor State Government for a new boundary fence.

Infrastructure

Labor has promised to put $2 million towards new lights at Dolphin Stadium which the club needs in help its bid towards becoming the next NRL team.

A re-elected Labor Government will provide $200 million over six years to support South East Queensland councils, including Moreton Bay Regional Council undertake community infrastructure projects.

Emergency services

If re-elected Labor will provide 150 more police officers for Redcliffe and the Moreton Bay region.

Labor have also promised to put $35 towards replaced vessels for marine rescue services.

Two of the 25 promised new Mobile Police Beats will be set up in Margate and Redcliffe.
