Toowoomba South MP David Janetzki, who is the LNP’s Shadow Attorney-General, says he’s disappointed the party won’t form government after Saturday’s election, but is very thankful to be re-elected.
Labor is on track to form a majority government, with News Corp election analysts calling 48 seats for the party at time of print. This number could rise.
The LNP has secured 34 seats in the 94 seat parliament, while minor parties and independents have secured seven.
There are several seats where the results are too close to call.
“It is humbling to have been re-elected,” Mr Janetzki said.
“I am very thankful. I am determined to continue advocating for our residents and our city.
“It was a disappointing election for us across Queensland, but we will learn the lessons and start again.”
Mr Janetzki committed to fighting for the projects he promised during the state election campaign, such as the new community hub at Darling Heights.
“I will be writing to the respective Labor ministers as soon as they are appointed,” he said.
“I will keep fighting to progress my election commitments and I hope the Labor government gets on board.”
Mr Janetzki secured 54.2 per cent of the first preference votes and 61.07 per cent of the two-party preferred vote.
Labor’s Susan Krause received 29.78 per cent of the first preference vote, while One Nation received 6.64 per cent and The Greens 6.38 per cent.
The LNP’s Jim McDonald has retained Lockyer, the LNP’s James Lister has retained Southern Downs and the LNP’s Ann Leahy has retained Warrego, despite the threat of Katter’s Australian Party in the area.
