Incumbent ALP MP Bart Mellish has won the marginal Labor seat of Aspley at the Queensland state election, beating out rival Amanda Cooper with 47.29 per cent of the vote.

Mellish had previously said the election was on “a knife’s edge”.

Voters in the Aspley electorate reported health and jobs were key issues when it came to making a decision today, with many reporting they were pleased with how Labor handled the coronavirus crisis.

Here’s what it means for you.

PROJECTS

Noise barriers along Gympie Rd in Bald hills to reduce disturbance to residents who have “had to deal with too much road noise for too long”.

Full funding and a scheduled 2021 construction date for the Beams Road rail overpass.

SPORTS

$100,000 commitment to help the Aspley Hornets FC to enter a major national 2nd tier Aussie Rules football league.

A brand new $10 million Volleyball Centre of Excellence at Craigslea State High School.

HEALTH

Plans to invest $81.9 million to build a new multistorey carpark at the Prince Charles Hospital, reducing carparking costs for patients and visitors and supporting 248 jobs.

This carpark will be government operated, which means the maximum parking fees will be reduced from $22 to $13 for stays longer than two hours. For shorter stays, parking will cost as little at $5.

A further $3 million invested in the Prince Charles Hospital to upgrade the emergency department with more beds, more treatment spaces and more outpatient capacity.

EDUCATION

$11,739 in grants to C&K Marchant Park Kindergarten, Geebung to upgrade a bike path and purchase equipment for the kids.
