$12 million promise to improve facilities and safety at Wilsonton State High School

THE LNP has made a $12 million promise to upgrade facilities at a Toowoomba high school.

Toowoomba North MP Trevor Watts has committed $12 million to upgrades at Wilsonton State High School if the LNP is elected to government at the October 31 state election.

Mr Watts said the “important safety and infrastructure upgrades” would see the school receive new permanent classrooms including specialist manual arts and hospitality areas for senior students, a performing arts centre, including arts, music and multimedia spaces, an expansion of the existing 350-space car park as part of a new traffic management plan, and a scramble crossing at the intersection of Richmond Drive and North Street.

“Wilsonton State High School’s student population is quickly outgrowing the school’s built capacity,” Mr Watts said.

“These significant and much-needed upgrades will help future-proof our education system and ensure every student has equal access to opportunities by providing dedicated learning areas and state-of-the-art facilities for students and teachers across multiple disciplines.

“The additional traffic management measures will also protect the safety of students, parents and the wider school community when travelling to and from school, and while crossing the busy North Street thoroughfare.”

Mr Watts said the $12 funding million commitment will improve the capacity of Wilsonton State High School to help every student reach their full potential.

“It’s also a key part of the LNP’s plan to improve student results, declutter the curriculum, take pressure off parents, teachers and administrators, and help our kids prepare for the jobs of the future,” he said.

Mr Watts’ promise is about $100,000 more than a similar promise made by Labor last week, which promised $11.9 million for new classrooms at the school.
