THE Granite Belt Wine Tourism committee has a new board and with it, some new ideas.

Newly elected president Ann Bourke has a strategic 12 -month plan to help make the region grow, with a keen focus of tapping into the summer tourism market.

Mrs Bourke's plan includes communicating with the community, working with the council, pop-up shops across the region and a sponsorship with world polocrosse.

"I hope next year there will be a lot more visitation to the region at this time of year, because we've had a 12-month lead into it.”

What she's most excited for is a newly-developed collaborative agreement with the Queensland Parliament .

"They have a dining room called the Strangers' Dining Room and that's for the family and community to come in

"So we're doing some Strange Bird degustation dinners in the Strangers' Dining Room - we're doing four of them.”

Along with the dinners, the committee will host five cocktail wine tasting events at Parliament House with the first one in February.

This includes hosting the Queensland Wine Awards at Parliament House in September.

"From the wine awards being held in New South Wales' parliament house, that worked towards a procurement website so the government can only have that state's produce.”

It's the second time MrsBourke has taken the role of president on the committee.

"In that previous two to three years, we've made some real progress with where we were headed.

"We'd actually developed a really good strategic plan and the main reason I put my hand up (again) was to ensure that we continued on with all of that work.”

Promotional events including Regional Flavours, Toowoomba Carnival of Flowers and Brisbane Good Food and Wine Show are all on Mrs Bourke's radar.

"If we're not there, we're not in front of people's faces,” she said.

For Mrs Bourke, it's being a part of a great wine and tourism community that makes her passionate about the role.
