Police have urged the public to stay vigilant after a family in the Granite Belt reported a terrifying and bizarre ordeal.
The startled resident reported that on the evening of October 21, an unknown man broke into their home and demanded money.
Bizarrely, the man reportedly began showing the occupants photos of a little girl, while being unable to say anything other than “sorry” or “money”.
The resident described the man as aged between 25 and 35 with dark hair and features and riding a green bike during the reported incident.
Stanthorpe Police Senior Sergeant Gerard Brady confirmed the reported incident and said the resident was “quite shaken”.
Senior Sergeant Brady said during the incident no property was stolen, no one was hurt and no threats were made, and the patrol group was called straight away.
“The patrol group was dispatched straight away and couldn’t locate the man, and during investigations no CCTV identifying the man could be found,” he said.
Senior Sergeant Brady said police were “unable to fathom a motive” and said the investigation had stalled, with no similar incidents reported since.
Stanthorpe police will remind the community to remain security conscious and mindful of their home security.
