No holiday for Stanthorpe police with drink, drug drivers and creek crash

Christmas weekend on the Southern Downs kept local police occupied as drink or drug drivers tried to slip through the cracks of Operation Mistletoe.

Wild weather also kept emergency crews busy after a silver Honda CRV ended up in Stanthorpe’s Quart Pot Creek.

STANTHORPE

• On Friday afternoon about 5.10pm Stanthorpe police intercepted a 38-year-old Warwick man driving on High St, who allegedly tested positive to a roadside drug test and was charged with drug driving.

• A 24-year-old Waterford woman was stopped on the New England Highway at Dalveen and allegedly tested positive during a roadside drug test and was charged with drug driving.

• On Saturday afternoon about 4pm Stanthorpe police stopped a 30-year-old Amiens man driving on Railway St for a random breath test, where he allegedly returned a blood alcohol reading of 0.136. He was charged with drink driving.

• The wild weather experienced on Christmas Day on the Granite Belt was allegedly what caused a 19-year-old Maryborough woman driving a silver Honda CRV to miss a corner and go over kerb into Quart Pot Creek off Wallangarra Rd.

Police allege the incident occurred at around 7.30pm, with the 19-year-old driver and an unknown passenger transported to Stanthorpe Hospital with minor injuries.

Police are working with council to have the vehicle removed from the creek.

• Boxing Day saw a 17-year-old male stopped by Stanthorpe police for a random breath test while driving on West Rd about 5.10pm, and returned a positive reading of 0.063.

The 17-year-old will later appear in Stanthorpe Childrens Court.

TEXAS

• Texas police are calling for public assistance after a woman wearing a high visibility shirt allegedly left a fuel station on Greenup St without paying on December 18 at around 7.20am.

Police further allege the woman was driving a Holden Rodeo utility with the registration DG56EI.

Anyone with information is urged to contact police.

• A random breath test on Christmas Eve is alleged to have uncovered a 28-year-old Leyburn man and 23-year-old Millmerran woman in possession of drugs.

Texas police intercepted the pair on Greenup St where a search of the vehicle took place after officers noticed a particular odour coming from the vehicle.

The subsequent search located an amount of less than 5g of cannabis, a glass bong, a grinder and scissors.

Allegedly, the pair made admissions to owning and using the items to smoke the dangerous drugs, and were dealt with in accordance with the Police Drug Diversion program.

• A Holden Commodore sedan is alleged to have been seen trespassing on a rural property along Arcot Rd at Texas on Christmas Day.

Witnesses allege the occupants of the vehicle spotted them and then left the property at speed.

Police are continuing an investigation and anyone with information is asked to come forward.
