POLICE are on the search for a licence plate thief after three vehicles had their number plates stolen in the past week.

The first theft occurred on Railway St on December 6, followed by a theft on Matthew St on December 8 and on Britannia St, December 9 all in Stanthorpe.

In all three instances the licence plates were removed and stolen from cars parked in yards overnight.

Stanthorpe Police Senior Sergeant Gerard Brady said the first set of stolen plates had been spotted on another vehicle.

He said the vehicle was also involved with evading police in Warwick on December 7.

"Police are conducting investigation in regards to stolen plate,” Snr Sgt Brady said.

"We believe all three offences are linked to that vehicle.”

If anyone has any information in regards to the stolen plates contact Stanthorpe Police on 4681 6400 or call Crimestoppers on 1800 333 000.
