SUNDAY was a momentous occasion for Stanthorpe's RSL Sub Branch as they commemorated their 100th anniversary.

The milestone also coincided with the naming of the local branch's building on Marsh St.

President of the the sub branch, Martin Corbett, said much-loved community figure Helena 'Lena' White was a perfect choice, embodying everything the sub branch had strived to represent across its life.

In the 100 years of the sub branch there has been 33 presidents, the longest serving is recently replaced Cyril Charwood, who dedicated 20 years over two periods.

"Over the past 100 years we have had many hard working members who have volunteered their time to help our servicing and veteran community. They didn't ask for any awards or pats on the back. They did it to ensure their fellow veterans received the comradeship and help they needed.

"We strive to continue to follow the objectives our forefathers started,” Mr Corbett said.
