Dramatic scenes as police storm house to arrest Gold Coast man

Residents of a peaceful neighbourhood have described how they hid in fear, and could not believe their eyes as heavily armed police raided a home where a Gold Coast man wanted on multiple charges was staying.

Neighbours have described their terror as dramatic scenes unfolded in the South Burnett town Nanango on when heavily armed police stormed a house.

A 25-year-old Gold Coast man was arrested during the raid in Railway Lane, and taken into custody as the Public Safety Response Team assisted, with their weapons drawn down the street.

The action took place near Pioneer Park and the Nanango RSL.

Nanango resident and personal trainer Leisa Green runs her workout studio on Railway Lane was greeted by police as she was walking outside with her clients.

“I had just finished yoga and walking the girls out to their cars,” she said.

“We were greeted by police and the girls were told to leave immediately via the lane entrance at the pool.

“I was told to go inside and stay inside.

“I went upstairs and I could see all the police with the big guns surrounding the house.”

Ms Green said she became so afraid, she ended up hiding.

A Queensland Police Service spokeswoman said the incident was related to a domestic violence incident on the Gold Coast.

“Police picked up a man in his 20s and he’s assisting them after his arrest,” she said.

“It’s alleged there’s some domestic violence on the Gold Coast he was wanted for.”

The man faces two sets of charges, the first including assault occasioning bodily harm, domestic violence, common assault, threatening violence and unlawful stalking.

The second set include two failure to appear in accordance to undertaking charges.

His bail was refused and he was due to face Toogoolawah Magistrates court on Thursday, March 14.

Former Nanango resident Kim Anderson was in town visiting family when the incident unfolded near where she was staying.

She described it as “scary”.

Ms Anderson took out her phone and started recording and couldn’t believe what she was seeing.

“I lived there for six and a half years and have never seen anything like it there,” she said.
