A woman who went on a statewide crime spree during Covid lockdown and stealing more than a thousand dollars worth of toys, has been berated for her “callous disregard” of the thousands of Australians who’ve died from the virus.

Tegan Joy Morrison, who now lives in Deception Bay, was pulled over with her boyfriend by police conducting Covid compliance check in Brisbane on August 4 last year.

Despite being legally required to stay within the bounds on Brisbane, the couple were found in the South Burnett region just three days later.

Police found the 22-year-old at a Nanango motel, which she’d driven to in a car bearing number plates stolen from a vehicle parked at Swickers Bacon Factory in Kingaroy.

Police prosecutor Lisa Manns said the couple drove back to the South Burnett using plates stolen from Brisbane and switched these with the freshly stolen plates.

When police confronted her, Morrison told officers she “didn’t give a flying f — k” about the Covid rules.

The 22-year-old was also slapped with a further stealing charge after she swiped $1145 worth of Lego from a Strathpine Big W.

Sergeant Manns said Morrison took five boxes of Lego from the toy section, before pushing a trolley full of the stolen items into the carpark and driving off.

The next day she put up an advertisement on Gumtree selling Lego and was arrested soon after.

Morrison did not appear in court in person but was convicted of stealing, trespass, receiving tainted property, and failing to comply with Covid restrictions.

She was fined $1500 and ordered to pay $1145 in compensation to the Strathpine Big W.

“There are thousands of people who’ve died in Australia because Covid has spread and she showed callous disregard toward those people,” Magistrate Andrew Sinclair said.
