Police are on the hunt for a thief who attacked a woman and stole her 4WD before driving it at police in the South Burnett

Police are hunting for a Nissan 4WD stolen from a Kingaroy woman unloading groceries, before it was driven at a police car, forcing officer to take evasive action.

A woman has been attacked and her car stolen before the thief drove at a police car in the South Burnett region.

Investigations are under way after a blue Nissan X-trail was stolen from a Haly Street, Kingaroy address on Sunday.

The female owner was unloading groceries at 3pm when a man approached and a physical altercation ensued.

The man then entered the vehicle and drove off along Haly street in an easterly direction, and was later sighted in Cherbourg.

Police say they observed the vehicle travelling on Fisher Street, where it has driven at the police vehicle, forcing police to take evasive action to avoid a collision.

Police are investigating the theft of a blue Nissan X-trail (pictured) that was stolen from a Haly Street, Kingaroy address at 3pm on July 18.

Police are appealing for public assistance to locate the vehicle pictured and advise the public not to approach the occupants.
