Their shocking crimes rocked the South Burnett community, and tragically, year after year our community witnesses our most vulnerable members preyed upon, often by those whose job it is to protect them.

The South Burnett Times has reported on these offenders’ vile acts and their punishment by the courts in an effort to deter people who may be thinking about harming a child or being complicit in child abuse activity.

Here are the circumstances surrounding some of the most disturbing child sex offences to take place in and around the region.

A former Burnett Scouts leader was sentenced to spend at least 18 months behind bars, after the serial predator pleaded guilty to a historic child sex offences against a young boy.

The Kingaroy District Court heard horrific details about the abuse, and the impact the crimes still have on the victim nearly 40 years later in November, 2019.

Peter Brocklesby, 67, faced the court on June 24, to be sentenced on six charges – three counts of indecent practice between males, two counts of unnatural offences and one count of threat.

It‘s the second time the former Scouts leader has been sentenced for child sex abuse, having faced court in 1993 for offending during the same period. At that time he was slapped with a three-year prison sentence, of which he served one year.

Brocklesby was sentenced to six years’ jail, and will be eligible for parole on December 24, 2022.

A woman has nightmares and walks around the house in the middle of the night to check on her children because of what happened to her when she was growing up in Blackbutt South in the 1990s.

The woman, who now lives elsewhere in Queensland, ­appeared in Kingaroy District Court as a witness and victim giving evidence against Alan Dennert on indecent treatment charges.

A jury found Dennert, 59, guilty of three counts of indecent treatment of a child and one count of indecent ­exposure to a child under 16 and under 12 years old.

The offences happened on unknown dates between ­December 1990 and January 1, 1995, while Dennert was in his 30s at the time.

Dennert was sentenced to 18 months‘ imprisonment to be suspended after six months for two years.

Convictions were recorded.

Qld dad puts young daughters through 10-year rape hell

A Kingaroy father was sentenced to 15 years behind bars for raping and sexually assaulting his two stepdaughters and biological daughter, with the eldest being subjected to this abuse for more than a decade.

On February 24, 2021, the defendant, 40s, pleaded guilty to 16 charges before Kingaroy District Court, including four counts of indecent treatment of a child under 12, two counts of indecent treatment of a child under 16, two counts of maintaining a sexual relationship with a child, six counts of rape, and two counts of sexual assault.

The court heard, the victims’ mother made a medical appointment and insisted the defendant accompany her so the girls could go to the police station.

It was declared the defendant had already served 425 days in presentence custody, from January 2020 to one March 2021.

Judge Long said he must serve at least 80 per cent of his sentence before being eligible for parole.

Pervert preyed on vulnerable boys, including disabled child

A 72-year-old South Burnett man has been sentenced to seven years‘ imprisonment after pleading guilty to having a sexual relationship with a child and multiple counts of indecent treatment of a minor.

The man, who cannot be named due to the nature of his crimes and the need to protect the three victims who were aged 12-15 at the time of offending, pleaded guilty to 13 offences in the Kingaroy District Court.

He was charged with one count of maintaining a sexual relationship with a child and 12 counts of indecent treatment of a child under 16.

The man was sentenced to seven years imprisonment with a parole eligibility date set at one third of the prison time.

Convictions were recorded and the defendant will be eligible for parole on October 15, 2022.

Man jailed after ‘taking advantage’ of 15-year-old child

A woman told police she discovered her “extremely intoxicated” 15-year-old friend naked behind a shed with an unknown 39-year-old man, a court heard.

The victim was found pulling on a jumper to cover her “naked torso” and the man was seen “pulling his track pants from his thighs to around his waist”.

According to Sergeant Stevens, police and paramedics were called to the address, where they found the victim to be “extremely intoxicated to the point where she was unable to speak or stand”.

Appearing via video before Murgon Magistrates Court, the man pleaded guilty to the indecent treatment of a child under 16.

The man was jailed for 12 months, with 63 days of presentence custody taken into account.
