Kingaroy street fire: Teenager dealt with by police after fires start behind vacant shop building

A teenager has been dealt with by police after they were linked to several suspicious fires in a busy part of Kingaroy. Full report:

A teenager has been dealt with by police after they were found to have lit several fires behind empty shop fronts in Kingaroy.

Three fire crews were called to the property on Kingaroy St, next to Pricebusters, just before 4.15pm Tuesday following reports of smoke coming from the building.

Vacant shop buildings on Kingaroy St, Kingaroy. A teenager was dealt with under the Youth Justice Act on June 26, 2022, after grass fires were lit behind the buildings causing minor damage.

Firefighters found two areas of grass burning at the rear of the property, which were contained within minutes.

A Queensland Fire and Emergency Services spokesman said crews then spent more than an hour ventilating the property, with only minor damage caused.

A Queensland Police spokeswoman said Kingaroy officers were notified of the incident at about 7pm that same evening, confirming the fire was suspicious.

She said a teenager had since been dealt with under the Youth Justice Act for lighting the fires.
