Detectives have begun an investigation into a series of incidents from across the South Burnett, including the serious assault of a 70-year-old man on June 8.
In a media release, Queensland Police said three men were reported entering a Wondai property on Outridge Street at 4am on June 8.
Police said the men “demanded car keys and a mobile phone from the occupant, a 70-year-old man, before assaulting him with a wooden stick.”
Despite assaulting the man who was later transported to the Kingaroy Hospital with non-life threatening head injuries, the trio failed in their attempts to steal his car.
Reportedly the three men left the Wondai property in a Nissan X-Trail, which had been allegedly stolen from a Murgon home earlier that night.
Police later located the X-Trail on Wondai Road in Cherbourg, where it was found burnt out.
“Detectives are appealing to anyone with information, or relevant CCTV or dashcam vision, to immediately come forward,” police said.
