FIRE bans have been extended for the Burnett region once again, as weather conditions continue to heat up.

Queensland Fire and Emergency Services have extended the local fire ban until midnight on Friday, December 20, 2019.

The fire ban was extended for the North Burnett, South Burnett, Cherbourg, Bundaberg, Fraser Coast, Gympie, Sunshine Coast and Noosa local government areas.

The Bureau of Meteorology forecast a severe fire danger for Kingaroy and Gayndah today.

Heightened fire conditions are perfect for bushfires to ignite and spread quickly.

Under a local fire ban, all open fires are prohibited and all permits to light fires which have been issued in the designated areas have been cancelled.

Power tools may be used during a local fire ban, however QFES encourages people to use these with extreme care and ensure adequate equipment is available to extinguish any fires which may start.

This may include having a person available to watch out for any ignitions that occur.
