A man in his 80s miraculously survived freezing temperatures overnight after becoming trapped in barbed wire on Saturday afternoon.

The man, who Queensland Police has not named, went missing about 4pm. A rescue helicopter was called to the scene, joining other emergency service personnel and family who had been searching his large property at Coverty, northwest of Kingaroy.

There were serious fears for the man’s wellbeing with temperatures dropping to zero degrees overnight.

After nearly 20 hours he was found safe and well about 11.30am Sunday, following a wide-scale search by Queensland Police, Queensland Ambulance Service personnel, RACQ LifeFlight Rescue, SES, Polair, and the Dive Unit.

Following a 20-minute search of the property the rescue helicopter located the man, however the helicopter was unable to land due to the terrain.

A QAS paramedic was winched down to assess to man’s condition before he was freed.

The man suffered minor scratches was taken to Kingaroy Hospital for observation.
