A Kingaroy personal trainer is making her mark as a powerful force in the fitness world, infusing her passion for physical health with the skills she’s developed as a student psychologist.

At just 19 years old, Jess Kassulke has completed her Certificate IV in fitness and founded her very own personal training business, JK Fit.

Her unique approach to combining therapy of the mind and body has seen the budding psychologist voted the region’s best personal trainer by our readers.

Jess said she put a huge focus on ensuring her clients felt nurtured and secure when engaging in sessions with her.

“I want them to feel safe and happy and to know they’re in a safe place when they come here,” she said.

“I'm solely here just to help you and if sometimes you just need to talk, we can just talk, but show me your goals and I’ll get you there.”

Jess said she admired strong and powerful women ever since she was a child, having been surrounded by trainers and fitness fanatics growing up.

“My whole family has always been really into personal training, and my aunt’s brother actually owns Kingaroy Fitness, so he and his girlfriend were always so muscly and fit,” Jess said.

“I’d look up to her and think, ‘That’s the kind of person I want to be, that’s my inspiration’.”

By Year 10 Jess said she had the opportunity to transform her passion into the beginnings of a career, scoring her Certificate III in Fitness under the guidance of personal trainer and fitness instructor Nicole Eckhart.

“I took it very seriously. Way too seriously,” she laughed.

“I was just like, I’m getting this, I’m working in a gym.”

As someone clearly not afraid of hard work, Jess juggles her business and study with a job at Snap Fitness, and rehabilitation work with exercise physiologist Dimas Bakini.

The former Kingaroy High School student said she aspires to create a place where mental and physical therapy can be combined.

“My big goal in life is to own a massive complex, which will have both a psychology clinic and a gym,” she said.

“My clients can come in to talk, which can be a crappy process and leave you feeling mentally wrecked by the end of it, followed by a workout.

“Exercises has helped me through my darkest days and I want to be able to allow that for other people.”
