Under the impression their son was playing safely at a friends house on Thursday night, Sandra and Chris Webb’s world was turned upside down upon learning a freak petrol fire accident had left their lively little body with burns to more than half his body.
“I was hysterical. Angry. Everything was going through my mind at once,” Ms Webb said.
“No parent expects this the happen to their child.”
Staying at the Ronald McDonald House, Ms Webb said the family is just taking each day as it comes, sticking by Xavier’s bedside as he lies in an induced coma.
“He’ll be in an induced coma anywhere from five weeks onwards,” Ms Webb said.
“It could be longer. He’s got to have surgery every two days, so the doctors will reassess each time.”
Xavier Webb, 9, had been playing at a private property in Goomeri on Thursday night, July 8, when a tragic accident left him with burns to 60 per cent of his body.
As a result, the Goomeri State School student sustained injuries to his body, face and airways and was flown in a serious but stable condition to Queensland Children’s Hospital.

After receiving that devastating call, Ms Webb said she remains in the dark about how her son came to be burned since he was at a friend’s house at the time.
“I don't know what went on at that person’s house. I don’t know what happened with the fire and how it was lit,” Ms Webb said.
“I’ve only just got the phone call to say my son had been burned.
“I rushed to the house and he was in a bad way. He was taken by ambulance to the showground and then airlifted to Brisbane.”
Before Xavier’s accident the family had been looking for a new place to live, since they’d needed to move out of the home they’d made in Goomeri by July 25.
Currently the search is on hold with the family caring for Xavier in Brisbane, placing them in a precarious position.
“I’ve got nowhere to move all our stuff at the moment because I’m down here with my son,” Ms Webb said.
“I’ve had to stop looking for a house because we're down here now, which is a lot of added stress.”
With news of Xavier’s brave battle and the families struggle to find a new home spreading across the small town, Ms Webb said they’ve received a lot of support from the Goomeri community, who’ve rallied behind them and are eager to help in any way they can.
