Kylie Chant opens new David Unwin Accountants office in Yarraman

First drawn to a small town on the South Burnett while chasing a change of pace for her family, one of the region’s newest business owners says she was quickly inspired to bring a much-needed service to town.

David Unwin Accountants firm partner Kylie Chant opened the brand’s latest office in Yarraman earlier this month, after first moving to the region in October.

She said she quickly fell in love with the country lifestyle and knew it would be the right location for the accounting firm.

“It’s just so different here … everyone is happy to help people,” Ms Chant said.

Ms Chant has been working as an accountant for more than 15 years and joined the Unwin Accountants team in 2014, before later buying in as partner.

Her new office will be one of only two accounting firms in Yarraman, helping ensure residents in and around the small town are able to access much-needed services without leaving the area.

She said that moving to a smaller community meant hiring and buying locally was important to her and an ethos she wanted to bring to all areas of her business.

“When I first set up the office, I didn’t buy all my stuff at Kmart. I took my little boy up to the gallery, and we bought some paintings and I went for the cafe and bought some stuff,” she said.

Ms Chant said she was enjoying the new rural challenge, and already had customers lining up despite only being open for a few weeks.

“I’ve found it really good, people are really friendly and even though I’m part of David Unwin, I’m managing my own office,” she said.

“Hopefully if I can build the Yarraman business, then by next year I would be looking for a receptionist and accountants assistant.

“There is the possibility of hiring some local people as I am planning on staying in the area for a long time.”
