IF TRANSPORTING and tending to dead bodies sounds like your idea of the perfect job, then read on.

Kingaroy's Generation Funerals is looking for a number of casuals to join the team.

But as business owner Penny Levi suggests, this is not a job for the faint-hearted.

"It definitely takes someone who is mature and is able to separate what we do out there and then to go home,” Ms Levi said.

She said in the there was no such thing as a normal shift in the funeral industry, however the successful applicant would need to be comfortable with a number of expectations.

"You could be required to retrieve someone from their place of death,” she said.

"It could be at home, at a workplace, a traffic accident site or a suicide.”

Other duties include assisting at funerals, being available for family members of the deceased, and setting up cemeteries or catering.

As you develop your skills, you may be required to help bathe and dress the corpses.

"Not straight away, down the track,” Ms Levi said.

The successful candidate will need to be mature enough and confident enough in themselves for such a unique role, Ms Levi said, as well as physically fit.

"There is a considerable amount of lifting to do,” she said.

"They'll need to be compassionate and respectful.”

The funeral business owner said some of her former employees thought they were comfortable in such a role, but very quickly realised they weren't.

"They can't handle the smell of a decomp (decomposing body),” she said.

Applicants must have an open drivers license and pass a police check.
