Sweethearts still going strong after 61 years together

Meet the couple with over six decades of memories together and a tenth great-grandchild on the way!

A LOT of things have changed over the last 60 years but Kingaroy couple Bill and Rosemary Moss can still remember attending Sunday school together and getting to church on the back of a horse and sulky.

"No one had cars back then, that was our only way to get around," Mrs Moss said.

"We were still taking the horse and sulky to drop off the kids to the school bus and pick them up again in the afternoon."

The Kingaroy couple celebrated 61 years of marriage together last week with a delicious meal at the local RSL and shared the story of how their paths crossed all those years ago.

"If I'm honest, there wasn't a whole lot of choice when we were growing up in Cowra, Bill way probably one of the few suitable bachelors available at the time," Mrs Moss said coyly.

"I guess we both got lucky, we were just at the right place at the right time."

Mr Moss agreed.

"Back in those days it wasn't really like it is now. You didn't mess about for too long. If you met a nice young lady you married her and that was that," he said.

After catching each other's eye from across the room at Sunday school in the small central New South Wales town of Cowra, the young couple wed in Sydney on February 28, 1959 when Bill was 19 and Rosemary was just 16-years-old.

"I can still remember the ferry ride we took over to Manly after the ceremony," Mr Moss said.

"We didn't have many people at our wedding, just our parents and some siblings I think."

"I can remember the minister made a mistake on our certificate, he put February 29, so he had to start the whole process all over again," Mrs Moss added.

The Moss' moved to the South Burnett region 50 years ago and have since settled into farm life in Wattle Grove happily.

Mr Moss served as a councillor on the Kingaroy Council for over 30 years and the couple now share six children and 14 grand children together, with their tenth great-grandchild on the way.

As for their best piece of advice for other young couples out there, the Moss' said not to let things get too complicated.

"Just worry about the big things and forget the little stuff," Mrs Moss said.

"You can get through anything if you work through it together."
