CRICKET: The Roma and District Cricket Association, Roma Golf Club and Mitchell Campdraft Association will be upgrading their facilities after receiving a share of more than $208,000 in funding.

The Gambling Community Benefit Fund awarded funding to eight community groups from Roma, Mitchell, Injune and Bymount, which was part of a $428,290 fund provided to 18 organisations across the Warrego electorate.

Roma and District Cricket Association was awarded $34,650 to upgrade their facilities, including a new field and pitch, a new fence and toilets for the clubhouse.

RDCA secretary and treasurer Ellen Bain said in the past the club hadn't been able to do anything due to limited funds so the grant was massive.

"St George and Chinchilla are willing to come here but we don't have a pitch, so having another field would promote inclusion from surrounding areas as well as improving the game,” she said.

Roma Golf Club was awarded $35,000 to install a solar system.

Club patron Tony Lambert said it was a big a deal for the club because it would reduce their costs, helping direct their savings to improving the course.

"The greens staff do an absolutely incredible job, to do what they do with the limited resources they have, it's an amazing effort on their behalf,” he said.

"The facility takes a hell of a lot of upkeep and I'm confident the solar system will help us.”
