One couple has found a wealth of artistic inspiration in the Maranoa by following the road less travelled.

SHARON and Brett Roberts have let their creative juices flow across the Maranoa, painting and photographing their way down the paths less travelled.

Those paths have led the husband and wife team to their first show, Re:Place, which opened at the Roma Walk of Art gallery on Thursday.

The exhibition is the couple's response to their relocation to Roma.

"We came (to the Maranoa) two and a half years ago, and it was an opportunity to get back in to my arts practice,” Mrs Roberts said.

While Sharon is a painter, Brett is a keen photographer with an eye for the light, and both take their gear when they travel around the region they now call home.

"Art supplies are an essential when we travel around; I usually take my little watercolour kit, some brushes and a sketch book,” Mrs Roberts said.

"Even without them, we would have travelled around the region; the photography and the sketching is more a sense of how we respond to it.

"We travel slowly, rather than taking a couple of quick shots and getting out of there, so I kind of think of my sketch books as being a record of my looking, rather than just depicting what a place looks like.”

Re:Place is open in the Walk of Art until Saturday, June 22.
