Cricket: Six Roma boys have travelled to Townsville representing the Southwest in the Queensland School Sport Under-12 State Cricket Championships.

The boys took off last Sunday, playing five 50 over games over five days against 12 regions across Queensland.

Roma's Cooper Langton, Archie Stivano, Hunter Price, Jackson Packer, Braith Lorenz, Darcy Kingston who are a mix between 10,11 and 12-year-olds were selected for the southwest squad.

Roma and District Cricket Club Junior president Darryl Langton said it was wonderful to see the boys representing Roma.

"The boys have played amazingly well,” he said.

"Six of the Roma boys who were selected make up half of the southwest squad, which is a tremendous effort by Roma and District Cricket Club.”

There are 144 boys playing in the tournament, representing a number of zones in Queensland.

"It's the highest level of school cricket these boys can play,” he said.

"The boys played at Riverway Stadium on Tuesday, which is one of the premier cricket centres in the state.

"It was a real treat for the boys to play out there.”

Langton said they've all played really well, scored runs, taken some great catches and got some wickets.

"They've played every match on a turf wicket up here, where they usually play on a concrete pitch with synthetic grass, so it has been a great effort,” he said.

A Queensland U12's squad will be picked from this carnival, to play in the nationals later this year.
