Roma revs up for major motocross competition

More than 250 riders and bikes will descend on Roma at the end of the week.

ROMA District Motorcycle Club is bracing for the roar of more than 250 high-performance motocross machines, when the 2019 Airoh MX Series Sunshine State arrives at Ironbark this weekend.

The two-day event will see a swarm of juniors hold the throttle to the stops on Saturday, while the Sunday program will put the spotlight on the women's, veteran and senior classes, who will leave nothing in reserve in the pursuit of racing glory.

A recent revamp of the Roma track has the contingent of riders excited for this round of the 'Sunny States', said Airoh Series co-ordinator Rachelle Houterman.

"Roma is a great location with a very specific style and some exciting new track changes as well.

"There will be plenty of opportunity for riders to learn new tracks and gain new skills,” she said.

With its hundreds of competitors and similar numbers of accompanying family and support crew, Houterman is satisfied that the Airoh series will contribute significantly to the 'dirt bike economy' that fuels many small towns in Queensland.

The Roma round is the second event in the 2019 Airoh MX Series Sunshine State, and is followed by rounds at Tivoli, Kilcoy, Goondiwindi and Coolum on the Sunshine Coast.
