Western Queensland police bust 10 alleged drug or unlicensed drivers

Police in South West Queensland have issued a stern warning to motorists after they allegedly busted seven drug drivers in a week, and unlicensed drivers across the region. DETAILS.

Police in South West Queensland have issued a stern warning to road users after they busted a concerning amount of alleged drug drivers and unlicensed drivers.

In the period between July 26 and August 6, police busted seven alleged drug drivers in St George, two unlicensed drivers in Roma, and a child on a motorcycle in Dirranbandi.

All the alleged St George drug drivers were issued notices to appear in the St George Magistrates Court on September 10.

A 36-year-old St George woman was intercepted by police on Barlee St, St George at 10am on July 30, in a black Holden vehicle.

Police allege she returned a positive roadside drug test, and she was subsequently charged with driving while a relevant drug is present.

The woman was issued with a notice to appear and an immediate licence suspension.

A 29-year-old St George man driving a grey Toyota wagon was pulled over on Henry St, St George at 12.05pm on July 30.

He was charged with driving while a relevant drug is present after he allegedly returned a positive roadside drug test. He was issued a notice to appear and a 24 hour licence suspension.

At 2pm on July 30, a 23-year-old Toowoomba woman was pulled over on Victoria St in St George, while driving a black Mazda vehicle.

Police allege the woman returned a positive roadside drug test, and as a result was charged with driving while a relevant drug was present.

She was issued a notice to appear and given a notice of 24 hour licence suspension.

A 35-year-old St George man was charged with driving while a relevant drug was present after he allegedly returned a positive roadside drug test in St George on August 2.

The man was intercepted as he was driving along Grey St in a Toyota utility vehicle at about 4pm.

He was issued a notice to appear in St George Magistrates Court and issued a 24 hour licence suspension.

A 23-year-old St George man was busted allegedly drug driving along Victoria St in St George.

The man was intercepted by police at 12.45pm on August 3, where he allegedly returned a positive roadside drug test.

He was charged with driving while a relevant drug is present, issued a notice to appear and his licence was disqualified for 24 hours.

A 42-year-old Toowoomba woman was issued a notice to appear in St George Magistrates Court after she was busted allegedly drug driving in St George.

The woman was intercepted at 1pm on August 5, while she was driving a gold Holden on Alfred St in St George.

Police will allege the woman returned a positive roadside drug test and was charged with driving while a relevant drug is present.

Her licence was suspended for 24 hours and she was issued a notice to appear.

A 45-year-old St George woman was charged with driving while a relevant drug is present after she allegedly returned a positive roadside drug test on August 6.

Police intercepted the woman driving a grey Toyota along Victoria St in St George at 8.30am on Tuesday. The woman was issued a 24 hour licence suspension.

District crime prevention co-ordinator, Sergeant Daniel Clarke, reminded road users that especially in the lead up to Queensland Road Safety Week later in August, police are out in force.

“We will be performing roadside drug testing any time and any place,” Sergeant Clarke said.

“I’d like to remind people that driving while a relevant drug is present is an offence. This includes cannabis, cocaine, methylamphetamines and MDMA.

“Officers across the district are trained in performing testing and drivers can be expected to be breath tested for alcohol and drug tested.

“Police have at their disposal, technology to do instant checks on people’s drivers licences to check for expiry, suspension or disqualification.”

In that vein, police busted three alleged unlicensed drivers in Roma and Dirranbandi.

A 24-year-old Charleville man was intercepted by police on Arthur St in Roma on August 1, where checks revealed his licence was disqualified.

The man was charged with unlicensed driving, and issued a notice to appear in Roma Magistrates Court on August 21.

A 26-year-old St George woman was also charged with unlicensed driving after she was intercepted by police on Victoria St in St George.

Police allege that upon their intercept, checks revealed the woman’s licence was disqualified and she was issued a notice to appear in St George Magistrates Court on September 10.

A 13-year-old was dealt with under the Youth Justice Act, after he was allegedly riding an unregistered motorbike in Dirranbandi, a Queensland Police Service spokesperson said.

“On July 26, Police intercepted a 13-year-old child driving an unregistered motor vehicle on Jane Street, Dirranbandi.

“Police also identified the Dirranbandi resident was unlicensed and was allegedly driving the motorcycle without the appropriate due care and attention.

“The motorcycle was seized and the child was dealt with under the provisions of the Youth Justice Act.”
