Roma police allegedly bust eight drink drivers, drug drivers, speeding drivers

In the first four days of road safety week, Roma police have allegedly busted at least eight drivers who were putting other motorists at risk by breaking the rules.

Police across Queensland are out in force, cracking down on the fatal five during road safety week.

Over the past four days in Roma alone, eight motorists have been busted allegedly breaking the law and putting other road users at immediate risk.

A 39-year-old Roma man was charged with driving while under the influence of a relevant drug, after he allegedly returned a positive roadside drug test on Monday.

Police will allege the man was intercepted driving a white utility vehicle on the Warrego Highway at 9.50am on August 26.

He is set to appear in the Roma Magistrates Court on October 29, and was also issued a 24 hour licence suspension.

A 60-year-old Surat man was also intercepted on the Warrego Highway on Monday morning, and was allegedly drink driving while on a probationary licence.

Police allege the man returned a blood alcohol concentration reading of 0.026, but checks revealed the man allegedly was the holder of a probationary licence.

He was charged with drink driving while over the no alcohol limit, and is set to appear in the Roma Magistrates Court on October 1.

A 36-year-old Mount Cotton man driving a white utility vehicle was also charged with drink driving after he allegedly returned a positive roadside breath test.

Police intercepted the man on the Warrego Highway at 11.35am on August 26, where he allegedly returned a 0.066 BAC.

He was issued a 24 hour suspension and a notice to appear in Roma Magistrates Court.

On Tuesday, August 27, a 27-year-old Roma man was charged with driving while a relevant drug was present, after he allegedly returned a positive saliva test.

Police intercepted the man in a Mercedes-Benz hatchback on Duke St Roma at about 9.30am on Tuesday.

He was issued a notice to appear in Roma Magistrates Court and 24 hour licence suspension.

A 33-year-old man was also charged with drug driving after he was intercepted by police at 12.54pm on Tuesday, August 27, on Bungil St, Roma.

The man allegedly returned a roadside drug test which allegedly found a relevant drug present in his saliva.

The man was issued a notice to appear in the Roma Magistrates Court and a 24 hour suspension.

A 28-year-old man was allegedly busted driving almost 50km/h over the speed limit on Thursday morning.

Police allege the Emerald man was driving 146km/h on the Carnarvon Highway, near Upper Dawson, where the speed limit is only 100km/h.

The man was intercepted in a Mazda sedan at about 10.30am on August 29.

He was issued an infringement notice for high-range speeding and fined $1854 and docked eight demerit points.

A 27-year-old Mackay man was also allegedly intercepted for speeding on Thursday, but checks revealed he allegedly had a suspended licence.

Police allege a Toyota utility vehicle was intercepted on the Carnarvon Highway at Tingun at 7.45am on August 29, after he was allegedly detected driving 115km/h in a 100km/h zone.

Checks found his licence had allegedly been suspended for about three months.

The man was issued a notice to appear for driving while suspended, and issued an infringement notice for speeding.

Roma district crime prevention co-ordinator, Sergeant Daniel Clarke, said police in the Roma patrol will be out in force during road safety week, targeting the fatal five.

“This includes speeding, drink driving, drug driving, wearing seatbelts, and driving while tired or distracted,” he said.

“Let’s work together to be safe on the roads.”
