Dalby lawyer Michael Wood set to take up role as magistrate at Roma Magistrates Court
After more than two decades in the legal profession, a Western Downs solicitor is set to take the bench as Roma’s new magistrate from next year.

Dalby solicitor Michael Wood has been appointed as the new magistrate in Roma.
Mr Wood is highly regarded as an outstanding legal mind and a pillar in his local community. His impressive CV features more than 25 years of legal experience as a solicitor for Edgar & Woods in Dalby, as well as a sessional member on the Queensland Civil and Administrative Tribunal, and as a legal member of the Mental Health Review Tribunal.
He is also an active member of his local community, having been involved with coaching children’s soccer and cricket, playing social netball and touch football, and service on the board an committees of local sporting organisations, including the Dalby Cricket Association and Dalby Rugby Club.
In his QCAT and MHRT positions, Mr Wood has presided over broad ranging matters including guardianship matters and risk assessments of patients and serious violent offenders.
Attorney-General Yvette D’Ath said Mr Wood was well respected within the community and would serve the community to the highest degree.
“Mr Wood is an exceptional addition to the Bench, with an impressive legal background and close links to the community he will serve,” she said.
Mr Wood’s appointment formally commences on December 11, however his first session in the Roma courthouse would not be until after January 19. He is set to hold this position for three years.
