Search for Maranoa man Ian Brumpton suspended after one week

The search for 61-year-old Ian Brumpton has been temporarily suspended, less than a week after he was last seen in Mitchell. Here’s the latest.

Police have suspended the search for a Maranoa man who has now been missing for a week.

“The search and rescue for missing 61-year-old man Ian Brumpton has been temporarily suspended as of 5pm yesterday (July 23), in consultation with his family,” a Queensland Police Service spokeswoman said.

“Ian was last seen in Mitchell on July 17, with a search and rescue operation commenced at 8am on July 19.

“Extensive search efforts in the Mitchell and Amby area involving police, SES, aerial assets, motorbike riders and local volunteers have failed to locate the man or any items of interest.

“Investigations are continuing and the Queensland Remote Area Tracking group will deployed to assist.

“Media and members of the community are thanked for their assistance.”

Mr Brumpton was last seen on Cambridge St in Mitchell and has not been seen or heard from since that time, with police and family saying his disappearance is “out of character”.

It is understood that Mr Brumpton has a medical condition.

A Queensland Police Service spokesperson said Mr Brumpton is “caucasian, approximately 187cm tall with short white/grey hair and hazel eyes”.

“He was last seen wearing a navy-blue jumper and blue jeans,” the spokesperson said.

“Police are appealing to Ian, or anyone with information about his whereabouts to come forward.”

The spokeswoman said police are also urging residents to check their “properties , sheds and structures for signs of Ian.”

A week since he was last seen, there are still no signs of where Mr Brumpton might be.
