With the face of Mumma Trace leading the way, about 80 relayers banded together to give cancer the boot.

WITH the face of Mumma Trace leading the way, about 80 participants took to Cities Oval on Saturday afternoon to give cancer the boot.

Teams spent nine hours walking around the oval, passing the baton from one to another, while also continuing to fundraise for the Cancer Council from their respective marquees.

In his first relay, Zach Harrower stood in solidarity with his mate Tallis Landers, who's family were patrons of this year's event.

"The Roma community have lost too many people to cancer,” he said.

"This is something we can all do to show our support.”

Rosie Geraghty and Di Stone from Maranoa Medical also took to the oval to show their support for those who have suffered or been affected by cancer.

"We have been quite lucky that in the past twelve months our community hasn't lost more people to cancer, there was a period a few years ago when we lost a lot of people in quick succession,” Dr Geraghty said.

During their opening speeches, they spoke of the increased support tele-health services offered cancer sufferers.

"Once upon a time, patients would have to travel to Toowoomba to go to their appointments, but now they are able to talk to their oncologist via Skype, Mrs Stone said.
