PCYC’S Melissa Caletti may have skipped off to a new town but will still be involved in the PCYC in her new town of Fernvale.

Born and bred in the area, Mrs Caletti said leaving Roma would be “very different for this little country girl… I’ll still be in the country, but right next door to the big city.”

For seven years, she was involved in Roma’s PCYC alongside husband Greg, the branch manager. “We work together, live together and bowl together.”

“My love of bowls is one of the reasons I am moving.” She was recently ranked in the top eight women bowlers in Queensland.

“I am a competitive bowler and moving to Fernvale will allow me to be closer to competitions.”

Mrs Caletti didn’t stop moving and was behind the scenes of many programs and events in Roma. Rise Up, Be Yourself (RUBY) program is one of the biggest reasons she has found it hard to leave Roma’s PCYC.

“Ruby is always going to be a big part of me.”

This initiative is a free physical fitness program for women who are, have been, or likely to be experiencing domestic and family violence. It is now a statewide initiative and was created from Roma’s very own PCYC kitchen by Melissa and Greg.

“It’s been wonderful to see ladies from diverse backgrounds dealing with similar issues, come together and we start to see the changes within them.

“A lady once said to me, if domestic violence doesn’t kill me, Melissa will with all this exercise.”

“We have seen a lot of changes for the better since opening. Greg and I had goals we wanted to achieve and we weren’t leaving until we saw them happen.”

The couple have been involved in Roma’s Saturday park run, Wednesday Running Mummies, FAB depression program for school kids and Braking the Cycle program who have assisted in 25 kids getting their license.

There will be no rest for Mrs Caletti who will hit the ground running and open the new PCYC in Fernvale. “I am so happy I can continue working with the PCYC. It’s not just a job, but I can be involved within people’s lives every day.”
