OPINION: Election candidates are just... ho-hum

Seven candidates, and none of them are standing out with only one week to go until the election.

SEVEN people have put their hand up to represent us in next week's election, and out of those seven, surely you would expect to see a candidate who truly stands ahead of the pack.

Yet somehow, Maranoa has ended up with a selection of candidates who are just a little lacklustre.

For starters, most have been absentees in our towns, which should not bode well with voters.

Yes, this is the largest electorate in Queensland, I understand that, but being able to take on that huge commitment is part of the job.

If you can't handle that, representing the bush probably isn't the career for you.

Face time with the local media has also been minimal - only half have bothered to answer questions from us here at The Western Star.

For those who have taken the time to talk, thank you.

For the rest, your silence is disappointing when the team is working their hardest to bring local perspectives and comprehensive coverage of the election to our readers (read: the people with the power of the vote).

After cutting through the spin, there really isn't much to go on when it comes to making a decision in the polling booth, and for me it is an important one, with this being my first election in the Maranoa.

So in these last seven days of the election campaign, I would love to hear from our candidates about what they will really do for us and the nation in their position.
