A man in his 20s is recovering in hospital after he was bitten by a snake on a Tyrconnel property.

It’s believed the man, aged in his 20s, was riding a motorbike on a private property in Tyrconnel when he ran over the reptile.

The snake turned around and struck his ankle, leaving several puncture marks.

The man was able to ride back to a house and call the Queensland Ambulance Service for help.

A rescue chopper was called into action shortly after 9am.

It is unconfirmed what kind of snake bit the man, however a QAS spokesman said it was described as a “brown-coloured snake”.

Once landed on the property, the LifeFlight Critical Care doctor and flight paramedic assisted in treating the patient for envenomation.

The man was flown to Roma Airport in a stable condition, where QAS paramedics took him to Roma Hospital by road.
