SPENDING a day at the skate park is the best part of school holidays for Roma kids, and this week, they put their boundless energy into a skateboarding workshop with instructor Jay Hetherington, from Gold Coast Skateboard Coaching.

His ever-popular skate lessons were offered free for kids on Wednesday, and some were back for a third time.

"It was really good, being able to skate around and have fun,” second-time student Bodie Higgins said.

"I love being able to learn new tricks with Jay each time he comes out; he was the one who showed me how to stand on the board properly and push off.”

This is the third time Mr Hetherington has brought his workshop to Roma, and the kids' enthusiasm is what keeps him coming back.

"They are all really awesome kids, and I'm happy to see a few of the same faces from the other years,” Mr Hetherington said.

"They seem to really appreciate what we do.”

"It's pretty cool for the kids out here to have this skate park, and have something to do that doesn't really cost them anything, where they can make their own fun.

"I like to think they just get that passion for skateboarding that we have.”
