Many hands make light work of record fundraising total
Roma's Biggest Morning Tea would not have been a rousing success without the local Cancer Council volunteers, organiser says.

A CONTINGENT of new volunteers made a remarkable difference to Roma's Biggest Morning Tea, with the local Cancer Council branch managing to raise more money than ever thanks to the extra support.
The Biggest Morning Tea, held at Moorelands Bush Nursery on Sunday, raised $4587 for the Cancer Council, and organiser Annette Huntley credits the team for their efforts.
"We had plenty of volunteers this year, which is a bit different to previous years - there are a few new volunteers who just made such a difference,” Ms Huntley said.
"Together we raised more than last year by about $300.
"Most of them cooked, and then they brought in a lot of their friends and family to make food for the morning tea as well.
"We have a very good community here in Roma, so it's not hard to find people.
"When you put the word out that you need a hand, it doesn't take long before you get a few people to come and help out.”
While Ms Huntley and the team were initially worried about rain driving crowds away, their fears were quickly assuaged after visitors arrived, and said they got the message that the event was going ahead.
"In the end, there was nothing to worry about at all on the day; once that fog lifted, people started arriving and it ended up being quite a busy morning really,” she said.
Like most community groups in Roma, the Cancer Council branch is reliant on locals to run successful events, and Ms Huntley thanked the team for helping the Biggest Morning Tea reach a new height.
"The volunteers are the lifeblood of our branch, there are about five of us who have been part of it for almost 10 years, and then there are a few who have just joined us,” Ms Huntley said.
"Without the regular volunteers, all of the events that we hold throughout the year, like the Biggest Morning Tea, wouldn't happen.”
Daffodil Day is next on the calendar, coming up in August.
