AN APPEAL to help out fellow community members at Christmas spread far and wide across the Maranoa over the holiday period, with a grand total of 142 hampers filled with food and other essentials being delivered around the region.

Spearheaded by the Maranoa Regional Council, the Christmas Hamper Appeal for 2018 gathered donations and non-perishable food items to share with residents in need.

Local businesses got behind the cause to donate goods, as did Roma's community groups, churches and schools.

Local service providers joined forces for the logistical side of the operation, packing all of the 142 hampers, and delivering them to the recipients.

In total, it is estimated that more than 450 community members in need received a little helping hand in the Christmas Hamper Appeal of 2018.

It was an effort that made a tangible difference in the Maranoa, said council portfolio chair for Community Service, Janelle Stanford.

"Council would like to thank our residents for all of the generous contributions they made to the Christmas Hamper Appeal,” she said.
