Fire ban lifted, caution advised

A WEEK of total fire bans has ended in the Maranoa, but that does not mean the region is in the clear from danger.

Fire permits which had been cancelled during the period of extreme conditions have not been automatically reinstated, meaning it is essential for residents to check with their local fire wardens on a case-by-case basis while conditions remain extremely hot and dry.

This is a policy that will remain in place until more favourable conditions return.

With bushfires still burning across the state, smoke is likely to remain over the Maranoa region during the next few days, and it is recommended that health precautions be taken.

People with respiratory issues should stay indoors with windows and doors closed, and avoiding vigorous exercise during this period is also advised.

Anyone who is experiencing adverse reactions to the smoke, such as shortness of breath or prolonged coughing or wheezing, is advised to seek medical attention.
