Drafting family reigns at Eumamurrin

Chris Hall won the ladies draft, but there were even sweeter victories at the sporting spectacular.

Taking out a 90-point win in the ladies' draft at Eumamurrin was a sweet victory for Chris Hall.

But for the experienced horsewoman and breeder, seeing the progeny of her greatest sire, Con Man, topping the tables all weekend proved to be an even greater reward.

"He has proven to be a very successful campdraft sire and at Eumamurrin alone his progeny won four of the drafts over he weekend,” Hall said.

"I got a real buzz out of seeing people like Cameron Lee win the Maiden B on a mare we bred by Con Man.

"Then young Mac Knudsen got out there on another one of his mares and had a beautiful run.

"To see the junior and juvenile kids also riding his progeny and winning in their classes, that is pretty special.”

Hall, who is in her 60s, was the last woman to have a run in the arena and took out the ladies' final on another Con Man special, Turners Congirl.

"I was actually feeling pretty relieved after my run,” Hall said.

"It was lucky for me that a good beast came into the yard at the end there, everything fell into place and it worked out well.”

Campdrafting prowess is shared among Hall's family - she has been drafting her whole life and got daughter Jane Lee into the sport early.

Lee now runs the Eumamurrin campdraft alongside husband Cameron and Hall was overjoyed with the efforts of her children.

"I'd like to congratulate the committee on running such a successful draft, especially in times like now,” Hall said.

"They have a wonderful community there and it is always a great atmosphere when you go to Eumamurrin.”
