AS if straight from the Hollywood blockbuster 'The School of Rock,' Roma now has a fresh faced band on the scene; The Food Fighters.

When the end-of-school bell rings on a Thursday, the group of baby faced rockers take to their studio off Hawthorne st to work on their repertoire.

A chance meeting was all it took for the year 5 Roma State College students to decide to form a band.

"We all used to go to the music room separately to play,” band member Evie Jacobs said.

"I would see Ava on the violin and Matt on the piano when I went in to practice drums...and after a while I started thinking we should form a band.

"I spoke to Matt first, and he was interested. From there we added more members. We've been together for six months now.”

RSC teacher Sam Muller was instrumental in the band's formation, helping the students to decide on their witty band name.

"We were all wondering what we were going to name the band,”keys player Matt Rowlings said.

”Evie's nickname at the time was cheese, and so we all started calling ourselves after different foods. Mine was bacon.

"Mr Muller then said why don't we call the band The Food Fighters, as we all had our own food nicknames.

"Some of chose our names based on our favourite foods, like Rory's nickname is burger because he loves burgers.

"I guess I chose bacon because I can cook the best bacon in town,”Matt laughed.

The band is currently practising a three song set, which they hope to have perfected for the October school Eisteddfod.

On the list is Jessie J's Price Tag, We Will Rock you by Queen and Wake Me Up by Aviicii.

"We all love making music together,” Evie said.

"It's like being a scientist, English major and mathematician all rolled into one.

"You've got to be good at english to read the music, you've got to be good at maths so you can count the notes, and on top of it all, you've got to be good at science so you don't break the instrument when you play it.”

When asked about their future aspiration, the band had big dreams.

"To become rich and famous ofcourse!” Matt said.

"We are currently on the look-out for sponsors - we want to get matching outfits for our Eisteddfod performance.”

All those interested in providing sponsorship for The Food Fighters should get in contact with band manager Janet Rowlings on 0403163718.
