GOLF: A wonderful meal, an array of awards and two life memberships featured at Roma Golf Club annual presentation night on Saturday.

Club president Mark Hall said the night was a great way to end a good year.

"Everyone seemed to enjoy themselves, the meals were fantastic, which were supplied by Cities Football Club who catered for us and did a wonderful job,” he said.

"We gave two of our members life membership, Darryl Reardon and Wal Butler, they've worked hard all their lives to the improve the golf club, so it was important to give them recognition.

"It has been a good year for us, the last couple of years we were doing it quite tough but membership has been improving, club media is getting better, and the solar system that we got through the grant is being installed as we speak and will be up and running by the end of the week, which will be a massive help to the club.”

Female player of the year Barbara Slater said she was amazed and grateful for her award.

"I've only been playing golf for a bit over two years, so it's the first time I've ever won a major thing like this - it keeps you coming back,” she said.

"I encourage women to come out to the club and have a go, everyone is encouraging and friendly and it's a great way to keep fit.”

Golfers will contest its Greenkeeper Revenge competition on Sunday and have its AGM on Sunday, December 16.
