Budget biffs continue, recycling tabled

The budget is still very much a talking point in council meetings, two weeks after it was handed down

It's been two weeks since the Council's budget was handed down, but the surrounding drama is still plaguing the chambers.

This week's meeting saw the issue on top of the agenda again, this time because of arguments over public access to the documents and whether both versions - including the mayor's rejected budget - should be included in minutes from the initial meeting.

Councillor Cameron O'Neill moved matters along with a motion to include both budgets in an updated version of previous minutes.

Maranoa's participation in the Tidy Towns competition was briefly floated, with questions raised about cost and workload for council employees.

Councillor Wendy Newman was for the region's participation, highlighting previous successes of Mitchell and other smaller towns in Council's jurisdiction.

Shifting the focus to Yuleba/Wallumbilla, support for the proposed National Cobb & Co day was next on the agenda - specifically approval for Local Development Officers' presence in local schools, and a parade at Yuleba on August 14.

A major proposed service agreement for e-waste recycling between Council and MRI e-cycle solutions was tabled in the meeting by unanimous vote.

The company, which once provided a temporary electronic waste collection service in Roma and Mitchell, is seeking to expand the operation to a permanent collection point in Roma. It is also proposing e-waste bins for Injune and Surat, the contents of which would be regularly transferred to the main collection station in Roma.

Mitchell is not included in the new proposal.
