Balonne Shire Councils offers chief executive Matthew Magin new contract
The Balonne Shire Council has resolved to offer their chief executive a contract renewal following a confidential meeting.

Balonne Shire councillors sat down for a special meeting with one confidential item on the agenda.
According to the meeting notice, the council meeting on June 4 had three items on the agenda, one of them confidential.
The council received two reports from the finance and corporate services officer in open council, and in the confidential component discussed the “appointment, discipline or dismissal of the chief executive officer”.
The result of the meeting was to offer an extension of the chief executive’s contract until next year.
Matthew Magin has been the chief executive of the Balonne Shire council since November 2016, and as a result of Tuesday’s meeting will be in the role for another year.
“At a Special Council Meeting, council resolved to offer an extension of the contract for the role of chief executive officer for an additional 12 months,” Balonne Shire Council mayor Samantha O’Toole said.
“Council aims to finalise the details of this matter before the end of June 2024, when the original contract was due to expire.
“Council will undertake an open and transparent recruitment process for the appointment of a chief executive officer to occur in June 2025.”
It has not yet been confirmed whether Mr Magin has accepted the offer from the council.
The discussion within council chambers was confidential, and due to Balonne Shire Council policy, only the mayor is able to speak on the matter.
