A new business will soon help support the local Paul McCartneys or Taylor Swifts of the future, with doors to open on a brand new music store in the coming weeks.

Tim Lee and his wife Susie will soon open Yeppoon Music on James St, a space where people will be able to test, buy and even learn how to play instruments.

Mr Lee has melodious business in his blood, with his father running a music store in Byron Bay in the 1980s.

He also used to own a store, Music@Noosa, on the Sunshine Coast until he sold the business about a year ago.

Now he’s bringing his love of music to the residents and visitors of Yeppoon.

“I didn’t even think of opening one here to tell you the truth … but I know it really well and it’s what I live and breathe,” Mr Lee said.

“The motto of the shop is for the locals; I’m not here to try and sell millions of dollars of stuff online and play that game, I’m here to be a bit of a local support act so have the shop going and people can come here and have a bit of a chinwag.

“We’re going to have some couches in here and a TV with some music and music video playing so it’s somewhere people want to hang out at.”

Since announcing the business opening, Mr Lee said he had received a lot of positive feedback from the community and musicians in the area.

“This place vibes, there’s a massive amount of music that happens here,” he said.

“You come from Noosa where you’re told to shut up at 8pm if you’re over 90 DBs, whereas here there are venues that are just playing music all the time.

“You just hear music going on all the time in this area and it’s really refreshing.”

As well as servicing the needs of local musos in the area, Mr Lee said he’s also keen to work with schools to help them with their musical instrument needs.

“I’ve always worked with schools, so we’re happy to help them out with those books, reeds and bits and bobs,” he said.

“Obviously the whole teaching aspect, you almost bring in most of your customers from a young age, I’ve had that experience working in retail for the last 20 years where you see a kid playing on TV who you remember having their first lesson in the shop.

“It’s definitely an exciting thing to see someone grow in playing music because it’s definitely like a different language.”

The store will offer new instruments, second-hand instruments, accessories and more.

Mr Lee has also had a lot of interest from people wanting to teach others how to play.
