After moving to Central Queensland from Sydney, Steve and Tayla Fagan launched a new business from their home – and it’s very sweet.

Steve and Tayla Fagan’s sweet new online business is every kid’s dream.

The husband and wife team, who moved to Gracemere in January 2019 from Sydney, have launched a new online shop, Luxe Candy Box - a move which means they are surrounded by lollies every day.

They offer custom order personal candy boxes, perfect for gifts.

The business idea was something Steve’s Dad, who is a businessman himself and role model in Steve’s life, had flagged years ago and had always been in the back of their minds.

“It came from our love of lollies and Steve is very passionate and wanted to open another business and we were just bouncing around ideas about what could we do,” Tayla said.

Upon moving to Central Queensland, Steve started his own mowing business which has turned out to be quite successful.

“It built a lot of confidence and I thought I could be successful with something else,” Steve said.

The pair decided to take the leap and spent a month planning before launching the website in September.

“It was more ‘how do we make them stand apart’, anyone is going to look and think anybody can shove candy in a box,” Tayla said.

Their difference is their product is the gift, not just a box of lollies, it is something already prepared and ready to be given to the lucky recipient.

“We aren’t selling candy, we are selling a gift you can give to somebody else,” Steve said.

“When it’s your mum’s birthday, or dad’s or your brother’s or a Christmas present and you don’t know what to get them, you can get them that and there is a personalised gift message.”

They also have a focus on being affordable.

Steve is adamant they offer the cheapest lollie boxes on the market – and pledged he would beat another price if it was lower.

“We want to keep these as affordable as we can … some others are $70 to $80 and I don’t know how you can justify that on candy,” Tayla said.

The pair has just marked a month in business and say it has “taken off like crazy”.

“I thought my mowing business had grown pretty quickly and this has just blown it out of the water,” Steve said.

They have already sold out of their themed Halloween boxes, thanks to a large corporate order.

“When you had to put a box out of stock after a week of launching it, it’s a good sign,” Tayla said.

Looking ahead, the pair hopes to create more boxes with themes for the holidays from Christmas to Valentine’s Day and Easter.
