Rockhampton Brothers honours stalwart with Brendon Hall Memorial Golf Day

The 80-strong field teeing off in Rockhampton Brothers Rugby League Club’s social golf day this weekend will be playing for much more than a trophy. Discover why it will mean so much.

Rockhampton Brothers’ beloved stalwart Brendon Hall was a fixture at the rugby league club’s annual social golf day.

So for the popular event to bear his name was deemed the “most fitting way” for the club to remember a special man who lost his cancer battle on December 1 last year.

“Hally” was 60 years old, the loving husband of Kim and devoted father of Lachlan and Rebecca who both played footy for Brothers.

He held a host of different positions, including chairman and team manager, and was awarded life membership of the junior club in 2015 and the senior club in 2024.

At the time of Hally’s passing, senior club president Tom Simpson described him as a “remarkable individual” and a “true clubman”.

It was Tom who was instrumental in the golf day being named in his good friend’s honour.

“Brendon always said it was his favourite social event of the year,” he said.

“He wasn’t the best golfer but he just loved being out there with his mates, having a beer and a laugh.

“The club wanted to do something for him, a memorial of some sort, and we decided this was the most fitting way to do that.”

Tom said the field had to be capped at 80 golfers (20 teams), who would tee off in the four-ball ambrose at the Rockhampton Golf Club on Sunday.

The team that returns the best net score will win the day and be the first to have their name inscribed on a very special trophy.

“The event sold out within hours and we have teams on the waiting list,” Tom said.

“Lachlan will captain the Hall Memorial Team and do the presentations at the Red Lion Hotel afterwards.

“Hally’s wife Kim is happy that we are doing it and, as a club, we’re happy to be doing it too.”

Brothers annual golf day has been running for about eight years.
