Vice-captain Curtis Seierup returns for the CQ Capras under-19s as they look to lock in their first competition points in the Mal Meninga Cup this weekend.
The club’s four underage teams are on the road on Saturday to take on the Townsville Blackhawks in their Round 3 fixtures.
The Capras under-17 girls will be out to extend their unbeaten start to the season, while the under-17 boys are eyeing back-to-back wins.
The two under-19 outfits are yet to record a win after hard-fought losses in their two opening games.
Capras under-19 boys coach Pete Rogers has made a few changes to his line-up for Saturday’s clash, which starts at 2.20pm at Jack Manski Oval.
His team was edged 14-12 by the Blackhawks in Round 1 before going down 26-22 to the Northern Pride last week.
“We’ve had two very close games that we really should have won,” Rogers said.
“We’re disappointed with that but there are some promising signs there.
“We’re not far away - we just need to put it all together on the day.”
The Capras welcome back their starting hooker Seierup this week, along with Zac Bateman who will come off the bench into the middle.
Rogers has also made some changes on the right edge, moving Mason Broadhurst to the centre and Whayllam Waia-Dau to wing in a bid to add more strike power and speed out wide.
He said his players would need to improve their ball security this time around against Townsville.
They showed against the Pride last week that when they had their share of the ball, points came easily enough.
“We need to execute and hold the footy,” Rogers said..
“With even possession, we’ll give ourselves a good chance.”
