He’s the classy cowboy from a small Central Queensland town who has just assumed the number one ranking in the race for bull-riding’s world title.
Clermont’s Brady Fielder is the first Australian since the legendary Troy Dunn in 1997 to be in that position.
His win in the US Border Patrol PBR Pittsburgh propelled him to the top in the Unleash The Beast standings and the PBR, the biggest and most competitive bull riding event across the globe.
The 25-year-old is competing with the Texas Rattlers in the PBR Teams Series in the United States and enjoying the best UTB campaign of his career.
PBR Australia managing director Glen Young said it was a remarkable achievement for Fielder, who he described as a “humble country kid”.
“He went over there the quiet achiever and he let his riding do the talking - and they’re all talking about him now,” Young said.
“He’s got desire, he’s got ambition and he’s got a goal - and he’s going for it.’
Fielder grew up on his family’s cattle station in Clermont before heading to boarding school at St Brendan’s College in Yeppoon.
He excelled in the school’s rodeo program and honed his skills in the Great Western Hotel Junior Bull Riding Series in Rockhampton.
Success quickly followed.
He earned multiple national team selections and, by age 18, had claimed the CRCA Rookie title and become the youngest rider ever to win the APRA National Bull Riding title.
He graduated to the PBR Australia ranks and in 2019 qualified for his first ever PBR World Finals in Las Vegas and the following year, won the Rookie title.
Young said Fielder was a prodigious talent and his involvement in the teams event had taken his bull riding to another level.
“Brady has shown that our Aussie riders are truly world-class,” he said.
“Riders like him set the standard for our up-and-coming talent, inspiring the next generation of Australian riders to aim higher and push further.”
