Two of the CQ Capras’ most influential players will share the captaincy duties this season.
Fullback Blake Moore and prop Tyler Szepanowski were today named co-captains by head coach Lionel Harbin.
Their appointment follows the retirement of Jack Madden, who held the position for the past seven seasons.
Moore has played 85 games for the Capras since making his debut in Round 14 in 2019.
Szepanowski has made 55 appearances, having played his first in the maroon and blue in Round 1 of 2021.
Harbin said it was a “natural progression” for Moore and Szepanowski, who have been part of the team’s leadership group for several years.
They were both respected and highly regarded by the coaching staff and their fellow players.
“Probably the best thing is they live their actions,” Harbin said.
“I like what they stand for - they’re both very humble and hard-working.
“They’re both from the region and have a good understanding of what it means to represent Central Queensland.”
Harbin said the duo’s leadership qualities were apparent from the get-go and was confident that the duo would provide a great dynamic for the playing group.
“Blake’s come through the ranks. When he made his debut for the club in 2019 you could just see he was going to be not only a good player but a good leader,” he said.
“When Tyler came back after spending some time down at Burleigh, I saw some similar traits in him as well.”
The co-captains are both aged 25 and have been integral in the Capras making it through to the finals series in the past three seasons of the Hostplus Cup.
The Capras last had co-captains (Guy Williams and Gavin Hiscox) in 2017, the year before Madden began his long reign in the top role.
